From 11 to 14 April, Galleria Aiap presents the complete collection of the covers designed by Bruno Munari for Club degli Editori between 1960 and 1967, telling the story of Munari's work for one particular publishing label.

Arnoldo Mondadori’s Club degli Editori label was aimed at reaching a wider public of readers offering a collection of quality books to be sold via mail only.

Munari designed the logo of the “publishing house” as well as the covers of all the books that were published monthly in the first six years of this label. Cover after cover, this wealthy corpus of projects becomes a very special visual diary, whose graphics and pictures, while illustrating the contents of the novels, represent the author’s approach through cross-references, new uses and inventions. It is an amazing laboratory, where Munari’s experimentation and visual research take shape, becoming at the same time an outcome and the beginning of a new adventure. 

The exhibition presents all these relationships, whereby the projects can be linked to Munari’s preceding and following ones.

The covers displayed are part of the “Munari Collection” of the Documentation Centre on Graphic Design which Aiap has set up with the aim of collecting, organising, cataloguing and promoting the evidence, history and research in graphic design and visual communication. The Centre wishes to act as a point of reference for graphic design which still suffers a lack of documentation despite its importance in the Italian design field and as a useful support for scholars, researchers, students, collectors and enthusiasts of visual communication.

The exhibition on Munari is the first of a series which will bring to light the history and tales of forgotten or neglected fragments of our visual past. Or of our recent present.
