Arnold Schwartzman to speak at E2 Open Studio event (NSW)

Noted graphic designer and Oscar® winning filmmaker, Arnold Schwartzman is kindly stopping briefly in Sydney to launch our series of Open Studio events at E2 on Friday 26th February. These informal Open Studio events will be aimed at AGDA members and numbers will be limited.
London-born Arnold Schwartzman began his design career in British television, moving on to become an advertising creative director where he won awards for his television commercials for Coca-Cola and others, and in 1968 he joined the board of Conran Design Group, London.
1960s to 1970s – regular illustrator for the London Sunday Times, and designer of two award winning supplements for the Sunday Times Magazine: EUREKA and THE FACTS OF LIFE.
1978 – moved to Hollywood, California, to become the Design Director for Saul Bass and Associates.
1982 – appointed the Director of Design for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
1999 to 2005 – designer of a number of key elements for the Annual Academy Awards® (“Oscar®”), including commemorative posters, billboards, printed programs and cinema trailers for the Awards ceremony.
Arnold is the creator of a number of short videos for the Museum of Tolerance, as well as an eight-screen video exhibit and a “Time Line” mural for the Skirball Museum & Cultural Center in Los Angeles. He is also the producer, director and screenwriter of a number of documentary feature films, the author, designer and photographer of many books, and the winner of an Oscar® and other film awards, as well as numerous international design awards including three D&AD Silver awards.
Arnold is also a Governor and past Chairman of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA), and past Chairman of the Documentary Executive Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
1974 – Elected to the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI)
2000 – Received the Pacific Design Center’s Stars of Design Life Achievement Award for Graphic Design
2002 – Appointed an OBE for services to the British film industry in the U.S.A
2006 – Conferred the distinction of Royal Designer for Industry (RDI)
2008 – Appointed a Governor of the University for the Creative Arts, UK
Schwartzman has lectured extensively on graphic design and film at many of the leading art institutions throughout the world, and current projects include designing 30 book covers for HarperCollins, two murals for a new ocean liner, as well as producing two documentaries.
